Bluebell Photoshoots in Hertfordshire
Each spring for a short window, parts of Hertfordshire woodland fill with bluebells. The colour is beautiful but what makes these sessions work is the setting itself. There is space to move, children are not confined and the focus shifts away from standing still and looking at the camera. I offer bluebell photoshoots in Hertfordshire for families who want natural photographs without turning it into a performance. The sessions are simple and structured loosely so you don’t spend the whole time asking children to behave or smile on demand.
You can see my family photography here.
What the session is actually like
We walk slowly through the woodland and stop when it makes sense to. I will guide you into good light and give small prompts, but there is no expectation that children stay still for long periods. Some children run around, some stay close and some need a few minutes to settle. All of that is normal and built into how I photograph. The aim is not perfect cooperation, it is capturing your family as you actually are together.
You will not need to constantly tell them to smile. Most of the time I will talk to them instead so you can step back slightly and just be with them.
When bluebells appear
Bluebells normally flower between mid April and early May depending on the weather that year. The season is short so sessions run across a limited number of dates to keep the location quiet and manageable. Evening tends to work best for light but sessions are planned with children in mind and kept straightforward and efficient. If you are hoping for a bluebell photoshoot this year it helps to register interest early so I can contact you when dates are confirmed. You can enquire about availability here.
What to wear
Simple clothing works best. Soft colours, lighter tones and minimal patterns photograph well in woodland. The goal is not to match perfectly but to avoid anything that pulls attention away from faces and interaction. Yellow is always a good shout! Comfort matters more than styling. If children can move easily they settle quicker and the session feels easier.
Are these suitable for young children
Yes. Toddlers in particular often do well because they are allowed to move rather than being placed in one spot. We work with their pace and keep things short so it does not feel overwhelming. There is no expectation that everyone looks at the camera at the same time. Often the most meaningful photographs happen when they are focused on you instead.
Pricing
Most families choose the shorter Fables session at £190. This lasts around 30 minutes at one woodland location and includes a small curated gallery with a 3 images included, with the option to add more afterwards. It works well for younger children and keeps the experience simple and manageable.
The longer session is £250 and allows more time and variety. We can move more slowly, include different areas of the woodland and create a fuller set of photographs, with 15 images included and the option to expand your gallery once you’ve viewed it. Full details are sent when you enquire so you can decide what feels right once you’ve seen availability. Enquire here.
After the session
You will receive a small preview within a couple of days so you have something to look through straight away. The full gallery follows once everything has been carefully edited for colour and consistency. From there you can choose the images you would like to keep as digital files or order prints and albums if you prefer something physical. There is no need to decide anything on the day, you can take your time once you’ve seen the gallery.
Booking a bluebell photoshoot
Bluebell sessions are now open for April and May while the flowers are in bloom. Because the season is short and depends on the weather, dates are limited and tend to fill steadily rather than all at once.
If you would like a space, get in touch and I will send over current availability and details. Let me know roughly how old your children are and whether weekdays or weekends suit you best, and I can help you choose a time that feels manageable rather than rushed.
These photographs were taken during my annual bluebell family photography sessions in Hertfordshire woodland. Every spring I photograph families among the bluebells across St Albans, Harpenden, Hertford and surrounding areas in Hertfordshire.
