The best spring photoshoot locations in Hertfordshire (Bluebells, Wisteria and Lavender).
If you are thinking about booking a spring photoshoot in Hertfordshire, this is honestly the most beautiful time of year to do it. Everything starts to soften. The light, the colours, the way everything feels. It is that in-between season where winter has gone but summer has not quite arrived yet. And for photography, it is perfect. One of the biggest questions I get asked is where the best locations actually are, especially for bluebells, blossom, wisteria and lavender. So I have put everything into one place to help you decide what feels right for your family.
Bluebell Woods in Hertfordshire (April to early May)
Bluebells are always the most popular. Every single year. They only last for a really short window, usually a few weeks between April and early May, which is why sessions book up so quickly. Once they are gone, they are gone.
The reason they are so loved is simple. The colours are soft and dreamy, the woodland light is beautiful, and everything feels very calm and natural. It is perfect for families, especially if you want photos that feel relaxed and not too posed.
For little ones, it works really well too. There is space to explore, move around, and just be themselves. If you are considering a bluebell photoshoot in Hertfordshire, I always recommend booking early. These are usually the first sessions to fill.

Wisteria in Hertfordshire (Late April to May)
Wisteria is one of those things that feels a bit hidden if you do not know where to look. It blooms around the same time as bluebells but for an even shorter period. You usually get a couple of weeks at most. Visually, it is completely different to woodland sessions. Think soft purples, light tones, and a slightly more editorial feel while still keeping everything natural and relaxed.
It works beautifully for:
- Maternity sessions
- Couples
- Older children
- Smaller family shoots
It is a really nice option if you love spring but want something a bit different to bluebells. The best place I have found for this is Hatfield House. They have some growing around their courtyard and it's absolutely beautiful.
Blossom and Spring Greens (March to April)
Blossom is often overlooked, but it is actually one of the prettiest parts of spring. Soft whites, pale pinks, fresh greens. Everything feels light and new. The good thing about blossom is that it is a little less intense than bluebells. It is quieter, more subtle, and often easier to access.
This is a great option if:
- You want something simple and natural
- You prefer lighter tones
- You want a bit more flexibility with dates
It is also a really good choice for younger children who just want space to run around rather than stay in one spot.
Lavender Fields in Hertfordshire (June to July)
Lavender is where everything starts to feel more like summer. The colours are stronger, the light is warmer, and golden hour becomes a big part of the look. If you have seen those glowy, sun-soaked images, this is usually when they are taken.
Lavender sessions are ideal if you love:
- Warm tones
- Sunset light
- A slightly more cinematic feel
They work beautifully for families, couples and maternity shoots. And just like bluebells, the season is short. Usually late June into July, depending on the weather.
So, Which Spring Photoshoot Is Right for You?
If you are not sure what to choose, this is the simplest way to think about it:
Bluebells feel soft, dreamy and very “classic spring”
Wisteria feels light, slightly more styled but still natural
Blossom feels fresh, minimal and relaxed
Lavender feels warm, glowy and more summery
There is no right or wrong. It just depends on the kind of photos you are drawn to.
